From the Front Porch
Welcome to this issue of Southern Coast Home Design. We’re
always excited to introduce innovative, green and strong building techniques in
our magazine. In this issue we feature several houses constructed of building
materials that withstand the test of time and weather.
One green buildingtechnique that has taken off alongour coast is ICF construction.
Built of poured cement, it is known for strength and versatility. In
this issue we are showcasinga house in the process of beingbuilt. Next issue
we will take you inside the finished and decorated home to show off the final
touches.
Another beautiful home we came across recently is constructed of DacArt,
a unique buildingproduct. The solidly built new home appears to be 200 years
old and is full of old-world charm.
Recently, while travelingthrough Brewton Ala., I had the opportunity to
visit The Hourglass. The three-story, 93-year-old building is definitely worth
exploring, full of one of kind furnishings and accessories for the home.
Backyards are takingon new importance with outdoor livingrooms and
kitchens. In this issue we feature both, alongwith ideas for creatinga backyard
pond full of Koi and water lilies.
Have you been to the Wharf in Orange Beach lately? Be sure to visit the
new Guy Harvey’s Island Grill and Art Gallery, and the many other great shops
at the Wharf. Be sure to try the delicious pepper crusted tuna salad recipe
