The Vosbeins wanted to
make a statement of an atypical
structure with unique building
materials that would be
admired for many generations.
"I wanted a home that
would be here for living and
loving for generations to
come," said Susan.
The house, built by Philip
Napier, is constructed of
DacArt, a process invented by
Ted Dial, from Mobile, Al. With
the look of aged limestone, the
textured stone blocks not only
create the outside walls of the
house, but also become the
interior walls. The process

timeless elegance the
Vosbeins were striving for.
Susan, an experienced
designer and space planner,
grew up around the grand

perfect setting for lavish entertaining.
The grand Italianate
mansion, with period antiques,

In 1842, Susan’s great
uncle Francis Grevenberg built
Albania Plantation in
Jeanerette, La., a sugar plantation
on Bayou Teche. The
Anti-Bellum style home represents
the grandeur of periods
past.
In 1898, Thomas Payne
Thompson, one of the original
founders of The Louisiana
Museum, donated hundreds of
paintings and works of art to
the museum and presented

Susan wanted high ceilings, large sunlit rooms,
and flowing living spaces for the indoor and
outdoor areas, to add spaciousness.
