His craftsmanship was a big
hit. “It’s extremely good, we’re
well pleased,” said Hank
Robbins, who coordinated the
project for his grandparents,
Harvey and Joyce Ann Robbins.
“The work was timely, and he did
exactly what he said he was going
to do.”
Damon introduced the wax
finish idea to Hank. “We had
never heard of that. But it gives
the walls a depth and dimension.
He applied shades of copper, gold
and pearl white, and you can see
all that color, when the sun glimmers
off it.
“Sometimes, it looks like all
copper on the wall. It’s different
during the day, it’s different at
night. It’s always moving and
changing,” marveled Hank.
Although this ambitious project
took six weeks to complete, “we
also do small jobs,” Damon said.
The unique, double-sized
condo is enjoyed as a vacation
home for four generations of the
Robbins family, who live in
Tuscumbia, in northwest

and operates several property
development companies.
“We have a boat, and we
fish,” said Hank. “And of
course, there are the beach
activities. We spend a few
weeks a year there.”
The idea for a joined pair
of condominium units began
in 2004, when Hurricane
Ivan all but destroyed the
beach club, where the
Robbins have been members
for many years. The association
rebuilt the structures,
“almost from the ground
up,” said Hank.
“During the storm
rebuilding, we were looking
for a larger unit, but couldn’t
find one. When the one
beside ours became available
for sale, I started thinking,”
he recalls. “So, I contacted
Susan at the beach club
office, and she said this idea
was feasible.
“I had to get the board’s
approval, but come to find
