Becki, a former chemical
engineer, and her husband
Terence, a former restaurant
owner, work together in the
three-story, historic downtown
building.
“Last month, I celebrated
my fifth year cancer-free,”
revealed Becki. “This had a lot
to do with our decision to
switch professions, develop
this old building, and spend
more time together.”
The shop was opened in
1996, but moved to this location
a year ago, from two
blocks down. “We want to preserve
this 1915 building, and
share her with others,” said
Becki. “How many 93-year-old

The store has a couple
of workrooms, Becki said,
and a “wonderful collection
of fabric lines. We can
send out any antique furniture
to be re-upholstered,
and create custom bedding
and window treatments.”
The store carries contemporary
items, such as
the Big Green Egg grill,
and Skandia plantation
shutters. “We have a wellness
area,” Becki said,
“with essential oils and
other spa-type items, candles
and home fragrances.”
“We have a strong following
in town here,”
Becki said. “Good visibility
from Highway 31 helps
attract travelers from
Florida, Montgomery, Mobile and Atlanta.
“Designers are welcome. We’re a great resource, for one-of-akind
items.” Hourglass is located at 220 St. Joseph Street, downtown
Brewton, and open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m.
