Lantz’s immediate goal for the Northwest Florida Zoo is to broaden
the demographics by holding several major entertainment events, to be
announced later, and monthly attendance events throughout the year.
The Zoo has an enriching education program for school age children,
but there are plans to broaden it to include the retirement communities.
“We want to have a program where our retirement community
can come to the Zoo and experience a
behind the scene encounter with an animal
during the course of the day,” said
Lantz.

possibilities of what the Zoo could become with proper funding.
Many of the animals are also in need of new homes. The jaguar and
leopard are on display but their habitat is not a natural setting. The Zoo
is focused on improving the quality of life for the animals through renovating
exhibits or relocating animals to other Zoos if the funds can not
be raised to build quality exhibits for them. Also, the Zoo management
wants to expand its collection of animals but can’t do so without funding.
The Zoo has the opportunity to receive another Giraffe this year, but
in order to do so a remodeling is
needed to separate the two longnecks,
so they can become
friends before they’re put together.
“We also have a male sable
that needs a mate, but currently
there isn’t space,” said Lantz.
Other goals include upgrading
the entertainment facilities
including the Serengeti Room,
which is available for parties and
functions. Lantz said the Zoo also
hopes to have the restaurant open
by the end of the year.
