It was the second time in fewer than 10 years that she had
helped bring the Gutierrez’s home back after a flood.
In 1998, the 18-hour rain of Hurricane Georges left a couple of
feet of water in the home, located near the Tchoutacabouffa River.
“After Katrina, we really had to think,” said Anita. “Did we want
to do this all over again? But we love the house and the location,

Katrina’s floods required stripping the house almost bare, and
Guests are immediately welcomed
into the home’s warm and open living
area. The foyer features faux
painting by Monique Spiers. The
fireplace’s hand-carved mantle is
one piece of Bostonian travertine,
imported from Columbia. All of the
furniture in the home is from
Merchiston Hall Galleries, including
sofa and chairs from Century, a
cushy leather recliner from
Barcalounger, and a pair of
matched ottomans by Century.
