While stainless steel will forever be a top choice
among homeowners looking for more durability
in kitchen upgrades, a new trend is emerging.
“At the kitchen and bath trade shows this
year, dealers got to see more appliances that
integrate into cabinetry,” said Paul Stanton, sales
associate with Mobile Appliance in Mobile.
“These literally disappear into the kitchen,”
he said. “For instance, in the past, cabinet-like
panels fronting refrigerators tended to protrude.
But now, the look is more like a television
armoire: panels are recessed-in, and flushmount.”
Refrigerators are undergoing even more
transformations. A Sub-Zero shallow cooler
drawer can be installed under countertops,
allowing children to “help themselves without
having to open up the big fridge,” said Paul.
“These are wildly popular now.”
A Sub-Zero beverage center is a place where
wine and beer can co-exist peacefully.
According to Paul, trade shows unveiled these
enclosures, where horizontal wine bottles are
kept at a constant 55 degrees. Below that, beer
in its own drawer is chilled to right above freezing.
Customers are happier, he said, with a new
indoor grille that doesn’t require so much cleanup.
“In the past, the only options for a grill were
charcoal for outdoor, and gas for inside. These
new Wolf grills are ceramic, with a 16K BTU
infrared burner,” Paul explained. “This provides
intense heat, but is self-cleaning.”
“We also carry a six-burner, or four-burner
Wolf stove, with a grill and a griddle built in.”
Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, in stainless
steel or cabinetry, are products of The Westye
